The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises ( UNISAME) has invited the attention of Haroon Akhtar special assistant to prime minister (PM) Shehnaaz Sharif to the most urgent need for concrete measures to bring about noteworthy uplift of the sector.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said we have asked Haroon Akhtar to take up the matter with PM.
The government needs to make friendly policies of taxation, make doing business easy. lower cost of production, give technical and marketing support and make finance affordable in the forthcoming budget and provide funds in the budget accordingly. Unisame has apprehended serious drawbacks if measures are not taken and important matters are ignored again this year.
Much has been promised since long but now it is high time that solid measures are taken earnestly and quickly.
Thaver summarized that the sector needs a very broad global portal to exhibit their goods without loss of time.
Secondly a technical institute is urgently needed to fill the technological gap otherwise we will become outdated due to the rapid significant take over of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Thirdly a protectorate for the sector is required to advocate the rights of the SMEs and create awareness and ensure no high handedness prevails.
A huge leasing company is urgently required on ‘Pay as you earn scheme’
We need to emphasize the fact that these measures are long overdue and the challenges need effective high impact measures. Mere lip sympathy will not do as in the past. The government needs to wake up said the committee members.
UNISAME Council members have insisted that the income tax rates must be revised for the majority under privileged sector as no where in the whole world the SME sector pays more than 25 % tax on profits. Unfortunately in Pakistan even the SME exporters are compelled to pay 29 % as income tax and for others the tax goes up to 40 %.
