The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) being badly affected by the slow and non serious pace of SME promotion and development has urged the prime minister (PM) to take vigorous steps to save the different segments of the sector.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver urged the PM not to undermine the majority sector and take more interest in its promotion and development like other world leaders and keep close watch , as it is the majority sector and has vast potential to stimulate the economy.
He lamented the poor state of affairs in the implementation of SME facilitation and sharpening of tools of SME promotion and development.
He urged the PM to direct the ministry of industries and production (MoIP) to carry out a comprehensive study on war footings of each lagging segment like auto parts, leather apparel industry, herbs and crude drugs, livestock’s and sheep wool to comprehend it’s requirements and the impediments it is facing to enable it to adopt modern techniques and increase its exports. The SMEs engaged in these businesses are complaining of lack of government interest in their demands and there is nobody to listen to their woes.
The UNISAME Council also stressed the need to expedite the establishment of SME export promotion bureau to promote exports of sea food, minerals, fashion goods and non traditional goods which has vast potential.
It urged the PM to invite renowned exchange gateways to Pakistan to facilitate e-commerce.
They regretted that the government has not yet allowed the export of jaggery (Gur) although having admitted it’s due to an error.
