SMEs ADVISED TO BEWARE OF HACKERS

The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has advised its SME members to protect their internet accounts and beware of internet hackers who are involved in cyber crime and causing loss to internet users by hacking their accounts.

President UNISAME said the union is receiving many complaints from SMEs about their accounts being hacked and misleading messages being sent to their contacts about loss of belongings and seeking help. Besides useful data stored in mail boxes is obtained by hackers.

He advised the SME internet users to have back up and also have strong passwords comprising of alpha numerical, numbers, alphabets and capital alphabets.

The union also advised its members to have separate accounts for different activities such as finance, marketing, procurement so that the loss of one account due to hacking is minimized. Suspected mails from unknown senders must be avoided and also information about gains in prizes. lotteries succession and ballot draws unsubscribed by the recipients need not be opened as they are with malafide intentions to deceive the recipient.

The union also suggested reporting hacking of their account to the service providers and domain owners for the abuse and the anti cyber crime agencies without loss of time.

The union advised new comers and SMEs with lack of experience and expertise to seek help from the union or the legal department of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA).
