ISLAMABAD:

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan has invited industry representatives to submit concrete and actionable proposals addressing sector-specific challenges, improving productivity, enhancing product quality and opening new international markets, as he chaired a meeting of the Task Force on Export and Industrial Enhancement.

The meeting was attended by Joint Secretary Freedoon Akram Sheikh and representatives of various industrial sectors, including leather, sports goods, cutlery, carpets and other export-oriented industries, according to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Industries and Production on Saturday.

The task force was constituted to discuss measures for boosting exports, revitalising industrial activity and promoting sustainable economic growth, and to identify challenges faced by industries, explore new opportunities for growth and develop practical measures to strengthen export performance.

The adviser said meaningful consultation with industry representatives was essential for developing effective and result-oriented policies, and noted that a series of consultative meetings was being held, with further engagements planned to ensure that the concerns, recommendations and practical experiences of the business community were considered in the policymaking process.

On sector potential, he underscored the importance of promoting leather, sports goods, cutlery and carpets, which he said offer significant opportunities for increasing exports, generating employment and strengthening the national economy.

He said the government was facilitating the business community and engaging relevant stakeholders to promote industrial revival, improve competitiveness and create an environment for businesses to expand operations.

Participants were assured of support for initiatives aimed at industrial development and export growth, with the adviser stating that the government would continue working with the private sector to identify bottlenecks, facilitate businesses and develop policies responding to the actual needs of industry.

He said the establishment of the task force was an initiative aimed at identifying the challenges industries face and developing measures to strengthen export performance, and that export growth and industrial expansion remained government priorities.
