Unisame urges SME commercial exporters to beware of smugglers, miscreants and money launderers

The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has urged the SME commercial exporters to beware of foreign buyers and their local agents who deceive the SME commercial exporters by using their services to smuggle forbidden goods.

Zulfikar Thaver president UNISAME said it has come to our knowledge that some SME exporters in good faith accepted orders for general merchandise from foreign buyers through local agents for exports to under developed countries.

The commercial exporters were asked to ship the goods manufactured by factories nominated by the foreign buyers and were told to forego inspection and packing supervision because the buyer took responsibility of quality and packing.

The only responsibility of the commercial exporters was to manage the documentation, logistics, banking procedures and making payment of freight.

It was later found that the consignment contained forbidden goods which were concealed in the cargo.

Such situations caused damage to the name of the commercial exporters, the clearing agent, the staff of the commercial exporters.

The importer and his local agents disappear causing all the intermediaries to face all the charges of misdeclaration, smuggling and various other criminal proceedings resulting in arrest of the commercial exporters and his men.

UNISAME has advised the commercial exporters to refuse and stay away from such orders in which theirĀ  pre-shipment inspection and packing supervision are not included.

Commercial exporters must insist on pre-shipment inspection and packing supervision and make it a point to be present at the time of packing and regularly visit the factory manufacturing the goods to check time to timeĀ  the different stages and steps involved in the completion of the goods.
