UNISAME URGES PM TO INCLUDE SME SECTOR IN ALL REFORM COMMITTEES

The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has urged the prime minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif to include representatives  of the SMEs in all reform committees to make it inclusive of the majority sector which cannot be ignored as it is  undoubtedly the backbone of the economy.

Zulfikar Thaver President of UNISAME has invited the attention of the PM that various reform committees are being formed by the PM to bring about valuable, useful changes in the framework of regulatory and governance bodies of different government and semi government institutions and organizations for positive, effective and better services to the stakeholders.

Thaver said it is observed that the representatives of the SME sector are not included although without them no committee is complete as the SME sector is the majority sector and the small to medium sized entrepreneurs are present in every segment be it of trade, industry, farming, mining or services.

It is pertinent to note that most of the value addition is done by the SME sector and infact most of the exporters belong to the SME sector. It seems the non inclusion of the SME sector is a grave mistake and any policy , any reform or measures taken without taking into consideration the concerns of the SME sector would be devoid of satisfactory results.

The Union Council members also pointed out that they have made valuable submissions through the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) to bring about reforms  in banking, insurance, leasing, logistics, taxation and training as these are the pillars of the economy but unfortunately there has been no implementation.

The Council members said in the past several committees have been formed and closed without implementation. They said the times are very challenging now and without implementation the economy will suffer as the country is facing very tough competition from India. Therefore it is very important that the recommendations, suggestions and ideas of the sector are seriously considered and adopted for rapid and fast track uplift of the sector.
