9th SME CONFERENCE TO ADVOCATE SECTOR UPLIFT

The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) assured the stakeholders of advocating the requirements, issues and need for modernization of SME units at 9th SME Conference to be held on 25th August 2015 at Lahore.

President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver in a meeting with Shamrock Conferences chief Menin Rodrigues highlighted the urgent need to make the SME units smart by adopting modern technologies in accounting, manufacturing, marketing, logistics, financing and productivity to fill the technological gap.

He urged the Ministry of Industries to revisit the World Bank study report and adopt the recommendations for envigorating SMEDA on modern lines to enable the sector to meet the global challenges.

He said the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA ), the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) have important roles to play for uplift of the sector.

Thaver emphasized the need for product upgradation and value addition in produce items. There is need for modern banking, leasing and insurance facilities for new and existing units.

He reiterated the need to implement the SME policy 2007 for rapid promotion and development of the sector.

The SME Policy 2007 is a comprehensive document covering all aspects of growth from the basics to the advanced and envisages the promotion on scientific lines.

The SME policy has addressed the core issues of access to finance, land at concession, marketing support, transfer of technology and logistics.

The SME policy if not implemented will simply remain a document.
The policy has recommended the SME Export Promotion Bureau, SME Chamber of Commerce, Credit Guarantee Insurance, Venture Capital, SME specific bank and Technical Training Institute.
The SME policy has laid high emphasis on one window facilities for investors, ease of doing business and reducing cost of doing business.
Thaver urged Menin Rodrigues chairman Shamrock Conferences to focus on the requirements of the sector on the 25th August 2015 moot and to invite the attention of the policy makers present at the conference to give priority to the sector to stimulate the economy.
