UNISAME commemorates world MSME day

The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises ( UNISAME ) commemorated the International MSME Day at a local club with its patrons.

This day is observed annually on June 27. This date was designated by the United Nations General Assembly  to recognize the significant contributions of Micro-, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) to sustainable development and the global economy . 

President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said as per intimation the 2025 Theme is  “Enhancing the Role of MSMEs as Drivers of Sustainable Growth and Innovation”. The significance is that MSMEs account for ~90% of businesses, 60–70% of employment, and 50% of global GDP . 

The day underscores the need for policies addressing MSME challenges like access to finance, digitalization, and inclusive growth . 

Thaver whilst appreciating the prime minister Shehbaz Sharif’s initiatives for reforms and his special assistant Haroon Akhtar’s efforts stressed the need for early implementation.

He said the sector is facing tough competition from global entrepreneurs and to gain a good position in global markets we need technological and marketing support besides of course financing at affordable rates.

He urged the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) to remain proactive to the requirements of the time and help SME units to modernize and improve bench mark to match global standards.

SMEDA also needs to increase its outreach in all districts to educate entrepreneurs to improve packing, branding and marketing their wares globally. 

The Trade Consulars must play an effective role in propagating our basmati rice, dates, mangoes, kinnos, chillies, halal products and many other geographical indication items. In fact since value addition is done by SME sector it is high time the TDAP sets up a special desk for GI items to popularize them globally. 

The sector feels there is need to do more and also urged the stakeholders in SME promotion and development to hasten reforms and implement them promptly as time is flying and we are being left behind in the race of technological advancement.
