The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has invited the attention of Jam Kamal Khan Alyani federal commerce minister ( Mincom) to the need for joint attention from ministry of industries and commerce and urged for Mincom and MoI&P to join hands to face and overcome the challenges faced by SME units and traders both.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said the SME promotion and development as such is assigned to the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) which comes under Ministry of Industries and Production (MoI&P) but since the SME sector is the majority sector and comprises of many aspects besides manufacturing only it deserves to be on the agenda of both the ministries.
The sector comprises of services, trading, imports and exports, mining and farming including cattle, dairy, poultry and fish farming as well. Each of these is not getting the attention it deserves for modernization and growth.
Thaver expressed the need for Mincom to have a strong agenda for the SME sector as the SME sector is not getting the attention it truly deserves.
The UNISAME Council members pointed out that the SME units are unable to import raw materials and packing materials due to lack of foreign exchange and as a result exports are affected. The buying power has reduced due to inflation which has affected the cost of production and cost of doing business itself.
UNISAME Council members urged the commerce minister to coordinate with MoI&P and jointly examine all aspects of industries and commerce which are two sides of the economic coin.
