Zulfikar Thaver urges Prime Minister to strengthen Small and Medium Enterprises Authority

Karachi, February 04, 2016 (PPI-OT): The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) in a message to the prime minister (PM) Mian Nawaz Sharif stated that SMEs form the fabric of the economy and stressed the need and the importance of government patronizing SME development and promotion on fast track to enable the sector meet the global challenges.

President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver appreciated the proposal of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) sent to the Ministry of Industries and Production (MoI and P) for adoption of the KOSGEB model of Turkey for SME development and promotion.

He particularly invited the attention of the PM to increasing the share and the effectiveness of the SMEs and urged the PM to strengthen SMEDA to enable it to do capacity building by bench marking and upgradation of SME units on modern lines.

Thaver in his message highlighted the need for allocation of funds from Public Sector Development Programmes (PSDP) for SMEDA to set up the start up support fund, establish a data base, promote human resources and consulting services. Not less important are marketing support and technical development needed to fill the gaps.
The sector needs quality improvement.

On the finance side he underlined the need for credit guarantee and affordable mark up.
The sector urgently needs a strong support for resources supply chain and finally a dedicated help line for the sector.

Thaver also invited the attention of the PM to the start up support fund set up by our neighboring country and he insisted that we should not remain behind in the promotion of our micro and small to medium sized enterprises.

He urged the PM to take steps for the jump start of the sector and utilize the services of SMEDA for the rapid promotion and development of the sector.
