SMEDA URGED TO INTRODUCE FREE ONLINE REGISTRATION OF SMEs

Mar 30, 2014 |

The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has urged Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) to introduce free voluntary online registration of SMEs and offer free online newsletter just like the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) online registration of exporters and free subscription of newsletter for the benefit of the registered enterprises.

President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said the online voluntary registration of SME units will enable SMEDA to classify the SMEs trade wise, capacity wise and area wise and will also benefit the SMEs to get related sector and area wise information from SMEDA. Secondly the SME promotion and development work demands industry specific and area specific programmes as the requirements of each type of industry is different.

Some medium sized enterprises are members of the chamber of commerce and some small to medium sized enterprises are members of the trade associations but the membership is not substantially benefiting them. The SME exporters of vegetables, fruits, rice and other human consumption items are compelled to become members of trade associations simply for the purpose of monitoring and tracking in case of abuse and registration with SMEDA would enable monitoring and tracking. It would be far more better if SMEs are registered with SMEDA and registration with SMEDA be made sufficient for monitoring the SMEs. There seems to be no need for registration elsewhere for an SME registered with SMEDA and registration with SMEDA be considered sufficient he reiterated.

He said as such UNISAME conveys the grievances and issues of the SME sector to SMEDA on a regular basis but nevertheless it can get direct feedback from the SMEs on related issues and accordingly help the government in policy making.

UNISAME appreciated the efforts of the CEO SMEDA for significant changes in the outlook and approach of SMEDA and for making the 5 year plan for the uplift of the sector.
